The Kayat Bougainvillea is a beautiful and vigorous cultivar belonging to the Glabra group, admired for its soft pink bracts, repeat blooming habit, and elegant ornamental appearance. Although widely known in several countries as “Kayata India”, this variety is believed to have originated from Kenya before spreading to India and other tropical and subtropical regions.

Kayat is especially valued for its continuous flowering nature, producing flushes of blooms multiple times throughout the year. During the winter season, the bracts often develop a deeper and richer pink coloration, making the plant particularly attractive in cooler weather. The variety is also known for its ability to hold viable seeds during winter, a characteristic not commonly observed in many bougainvillea cultivars.

The plant typically displays medium-sized, papery pink bracts surrounding small creamy-white flowers, combined with glossy green foliage and a graceful branching habit. It performs well in warm climates with full sunlight and moderate feeding.

Due to its strong repeat-blooming behavior, Kayat can sometimes become susceptible to chlorosis, especially if nutrient reserves become depleted after repeated flowering cycles. Regular supplementation with micronutrients such as iron and magnesium, along with balanced fertilization, helps maintain healthy foliage and vigorous blooming.

This cultivar remains popular among collectors and growers because of its floriferous nature, winter color enhancement, and distinctive heritage linking Kenya, India, and other bougainvillea-growing regions worldwide.
